Judge Lala Brittain Sylvester was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on September 30, 1960. She grew up in Natchitoches and graduated from St. Mary’s High School.
Judge Sylvester received a Bachelor of Science in General Studies degree from Northwestern State University in 1982. She graduated from Southern University Law Center in 1987.
She was engaged in private practice of law for over 20 years, and served as an Assistant District Attorney from 2006-2014.
Judge Sylvester is a past president of the following organizations: Service League of Natchitoches and St. Mary’s Foundation. She was a Chairman of the Board for the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Foundation and Scholarships. Also, Judge Sylvester is a member of the following organizations: Beta Sigma Phi, Natchitoches Historic Foundation and American Legion Auxiliary. Judge Sylvester is a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre for the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
Judge Sylvester has been an active member of Louisiana State Bar Association and Natchitoches Parish Bar Association.
Judge Sylvester is married to Russell “Rusty” Sylvester and they have four children, Brittany, Courtney, Ashley and Kathleen. The Sylvesters are members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
