John Trahan is currently serving as a district judge for the 15th Judicial District. This district comprises of the parishes of Acadia, Lafayette, and Vermilion. He hears civil and criminal cases rotating among the three parishes. He was elected in September 1996, with his term beginning on January 1, 1997. He was unopposed in 2002 and his current term expires December 31, 2020. He is a graduate of Notre Dame High School, USL, and LSU Law School. He is married to M’elise Beslin, formerly of Rayne, and has two children.
He served as chief judge of the Fifteenth Judicial District from September 2003 to August 2005. He presently holds membership in the Acadia Parish Bar Association; Louisiana State Bar Association; John M. Duhe, Jr. American Inn of Court; Judges Association of the Third Circuit Court of Appeal, having served as president; American Judges Association; American Judicature Society; Louisiana Council of Juvenile & Family Court Judges; and Louisiana District Judges Association.
