Cox was previously a judge in the 26th Judicial District, Louisiana, Division C. He was elected to this court in November 2004. Cox is a former partner of the law firm of Mills, Turansky, and Cox, P.C., where he dealt with estate planning, wills, successions, and elder care issues. He also served as an assistant district attorney for Bossier/Webster Parishes (26th Judicial District Court). In 2004, he was elected to the 26th Judicial District.

Cox received his B.S. in finance from Louisiana Tech University, his M.B.A. from Louisiana State University-Shreveport, his J.D. from Southern University Law Center in 1992, and his LL.M. from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
