Judge Edward D. Rubin celebrated thirteen years on the state district bench in January 2006. He serves Lafayette Parish as one of three juvenile judges, adjudicating issues such as juvenile delinquency and children in need of care. He enjoys membership in the Third Circuit Judges Association, an organization comprised of city courts, state courts, appellant and Supreme court judges who serve within a 21 parish area. He is a founding member of the Southwest Lawyers Association. He is a former member of the Louisianan Trial Lawyers Association and the Boys club of America and also a current member of the National Bar Association.
Prior to his election to the bench, Judge Rubin practiced law in Lafayette for 20 years. He is a graduate of Paul Breaux High School, and received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Southern University. Upon graduation from law school, he taught business Law at Southern University for a year and a half. He is a former Assistant Parish Attorney for Lafayette Parish.
Judge Rubin is married to the former Bernadette Fontenot. They are the parents of three children; LaShon, co-manager of Primary Colors Daycare; Chanda, a professional tennis player, formerly ranked as high as 5th in the world; and Ed Jr., a recipient of an undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and recent graduate of Southern University Law School. Judge Rubin is the son of Clifton and Vinus Rubin.
