Judge Alonzo Harris is a native of Washington, Louisiana. He is a 1983 Graduate of Southern University, graduating with a BS Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. He earned his JD from Southern University Law Center in 1986.
Prior to becoming a judge, Harris worked in private practice for 5 ½ years with Harris & Harris Law Firm in Opelousas, Louisiana with father and sister until elected judge. He was also a public Defender for St. Landry Parish for 5 years.
Elected District Judge, Division “C” of the 27th Judicial District Court at the age of 31 in May of 1993. First African American Judge elected in St. Landry Parish. He is currently serving as Chief Judge of the 27th Judicial District Court.
